INTEGRATION Policy Statement

BASIC BELIEF

This school believes that all children have a right to be educated in a regular school and that their education be dependent of their varying requirements. It is anticipated that children’s needs will be met within the school. The school is committed to equal participation of parents, teachers, Principal and student (where applicable) to discuss regularly the child’s schooling. We believe that every child can learn and be taught given appropriate resources and expertise.

OUR POLICY OF INTEGRATION IS:

  • Striving to achieve and protecting the rights of all children to participate in an open caring environment.
  • Organise services to cater for a child as an individual and not as a category or a disability.
  • Identifying, organising and providing appropriate resources within the school.
  • Sharing responsibility between parents, teachers, Principal and student (where applicable.)
  • Continually striving to improve the quality of the school’s teaching and of the child’s learning.

GUIDELINES

  • A School Council sub-committee on Integration will be formed to carry out duties as listed.
  • Program Support Groups will be formed for each child.
  • Integration Teacher Policy and Guidelines (1191) shall be implemented.
  • Inservice activities will be provided for whole staff; integration aides and integration teachers as the need arises.
  • Funding for integrated children shall be applied for, supplied to and disbursed by the school, through the school’s budget process.
  • Program Support Groups may depart from these guidelines only when it is believed that the interests of the child or unusual circumstances require different arrangements.

BASIS FOR DISCRETION

This policy may be varied by the Principal should the need arise.
