HOMEWORK Policy Statement

BASIC BELIEF

Homework is seen as an extension of the school program and as a means of actively encouraging parental involvement with the school and the student’s educational program.

Regular homework is seen as a valuable aspect of the learning process, contributing to the development of sound study habits and supporting the transition from primary to post primary schooling.

GUIDELINES

  • Homework is set on a regular basis as prescribed at Unit levels.
  • The amount of homework set at each grade level will be consistent, with a maximum of 2 hours per week at the grade 6 level.
  • Completion of homework is expected. Consequences for non-compliance will be at the discretion of the class teacher.
  • For students in all grades, needs based homework may be set in liaison with parents.
  • Homework will be checked/corrected promptly and feed back on performance given to the student.
