BASIC BELIEF

It is the policy of the Myrtleford Primary School that learning and teaching practices should improve the quality of learning for all students in the school. The school aims to provide each student with a range of

  • learning experiences and an environment which will:
  • Assist them to improve their own learning
  • Promote excellence in learning
  • Develop their self-esteem, confidence and independence, and
  • Enable them to prepare for effective participation in a changing society

GUIDELINES

We believe that:

  • All students want to learn and are capable of learning
  • A curriculum which is comprehensive and gender inclusive will extend and develop the abilities of each student
  • Learning can be best fostered in a socially supportive environment free from all forms of discrimination
  • Students come from different backgrounds and learn at different rates and in different ways
  • All students are capable of success
  • Student self-esteem and confidence are central to student learning, and
  • Students need regular feedback about their learning performance in order to improve their learning

Learning and teaching strategies will:

  • Involve students as active participants, both in the planning and organisation of their studies, and in the evaluation of their learning
  • Assist students progressively to take responsibility for their own learning

MYRTLEFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL:

  • Offer students opportunities for success and motivate them to continue learning
  • Cater for different rates and styles of learning
  • Build confidence in the use of inquiry processes, risk taking, problem solving techniques, cooperative learning and creative activities
  • Build upon students previous knowledge, understandings, interests and experiences
  • Enable students to apply their knowledge and skills in real life and practical situations
  • Build and support student self-esteem and confidence
  • Promote equal opportunities for all students and in particular encourage gender equity
  • Enhance cooperation and support between:
  • Students and their peers
  • Students and teachers
  • Parents, students and teachers
  • The school and the wider community
  • Enhance the quality of relationships between student and teacher
