"SNOW WARS"
Star Wars-style technology has been woven into the design of infra-red
weapons and sensors to create an exciting new challenge called Laser
Skirmish.
In 1998 electronics engineers worked out how to lens the infra-red so the
beam could travel much further than previously managed by lasertag
equipment. This discovery provided the platfrom for the participants in
Laser Skirmish to 'hit' opponents at 80 metres + in daylight of infra-red
units.
Laser Skirmish is a new sport made possible by the technological
break-through, and the introduction of Laser Skirmish to the elements
incorporated into the new Alpine Adventure Park at Falls Creek Alpine
Resort, is quite an innovative move by Falls Creek Ski Lifts.
Laser Skirmish is a tactical game of team based combat, also known as
"electronic" paintball. It is war games for "warriors", like the TV series
Combat Missions or Battle Stripes or even Boot Camp. Every Wednesday and
Saturday participants may do battle in the resort's Adventure Park on Snow
(in the Village Bowl) between 7-10pm.
The base technology used by www.battlefieldsports.com is infra-red light.
Infra-red is on the safe side of the visible spectrum.
It is fast paced and extreme. Unlike the old style arena indoor games you
may have heard of, Laser Skirmish is played outdoors. Each team is equipped
with
infrared weapons and sensor helmets. Players shoot an invisible and harmless
infrared beam, similar to the one which is used in your TV remote control.
Laser Skirmish participants can play stand-alone missions like ³Capture
the Flag² or more advanced missions like the Mobile Guerrilla Force of
Vietnam, and the Special Air Service Regiment operatives and lots more (see
our example missions website: www.lasertag.com.au/missions/default.htm?falls
creek).
Outdoor Laser Skirmish is a team oriented combat simulation that is played
in a variety of different locations, such as the snow-covered slopes at
Falls Creek,
bushland or on purpose built battlefields. Plus with Laser Skirmish you
are able to adjust the number of hit points needed to "die". This makes a
great
sport even better.
Outdoor Laser Skirmish is currently played using the Battlefield Sports
System in
Cairns (Far North Queensland), Brisbane, on the Gold Coast, Canberra/ACT and
this
winter will be introduced in the alpine resort of Falls Creek, Victoria.
This will be Australia¹s only alpine Laser Skirmish venue, and believed to
bethe only on-snow venue in the world operating at night. Picture Darth
Vadermeets the Winter Olympics! There¹ll be multiple competition locations
within the Village Bowl and above the Summit Chair creating an exhilarating
experience for all ages. The ultimate way to Oone up¹ your mates, work
colleagues, uni group or fellow holiday makers.
