The picturesque mountain village of Harrietville, located on the Great Alpine Road 26kms from Bright, is situated on the banks of the Ovens River.

Located 332 km north-east of Melbourne, Harrietville is the last town before Mt Hotham, Harrietville is an old goldmining town that was settled in 1852. Its history is captured in a riverside park that pays homage to the local pioneers, and is a pleasant spot to picnic or stretch your legs. If you're properly equipped and very fit, you can take the walking tracks to Mt Hotham or Mt Feathertop.
Settled in 1852 by goldminers it became a resting place for those en route to the Omeo, Dargo and Glen Wills goldfields. Reef mining commenced in the area in 1861 as alluvial gold became scarce

The town is particularly attractive in autumn when the blazing colours of its large variety of deciduous trees creates a spectacular display. The Ovens River meanders through Harrietville, lined with attractive parks including Pioneer Park which features a museum and displays of the region's history.
